Moni! Introductions
http://www.malawienergy.net/4.html
Hello family, friends, and students. I decided to create a blog for you all, should you choose to follow my work in Africa. I will be departing the country from Washington D.C. on June 21 and touching down for the first time in Ethiopia on June 22, where I will take off again. My final flight destination is Lilongwe, Malawi. From there, I will spend a couple of nights and do some sightseeing. On June 24, I will travel to Zomba Town where I will live for five weeks.
While in Zomba, I will travel to Domasi to assist local teachers in one of three local schools each morning: Domasi Government School, Domasi Demonstration School, and Malemia Primary School (I will most likely be assigned to Malemia Primary School). Three colleges (Radford University - me, Virginia Tech - Mrs. Hash, and North Carolina State) will be represented and each will be assigned to one of the three schools.
In the afternoon, I will travel back to Zomba where I will attend a graduate class for Radford University through the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE). I will be conducting research and analysing local short stories using a feminist/post-colonial theoretical eye. This should prove interesting work.
Finally, once this work is complete, I will return on July 18.
Please feel free to communicate with me here or via e-mail at cgardner@grayson.k12.va.us.
Also, if you'd like to keep up with Mrs. Hash on our journey, she is blogging at http://hacklerhash.blogspot.com/

ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that you are alright. I miss you. I will try calling you again tomorrow. Although, I don't think the person working the desk at Budget Lodge was too pleased that me and my mother tied up the business phone. I love you and hope to hear from you soon. ~Philip
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you tonight. Phillil is amazing. Hope he can call us again soon. Take care. Don't eat the chicken. Love You,Mom
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful to hear your voice again today. For everyone else's benifit I will write a bit of an update. Carolyn has started working with the children at the local school yesterday. From what I gather they seem to like her. Carolyn and DeAnna walked to and from the school yesterday and the children followed them along the way.
ReplyDeleteThe last few nights there have been some interesting noises on the tin roof of the Lodge that they are staying in which turned out to be monkeys which were jumping onto the roof from the bamboo patch nearby.
Today they went into town to shop a bit and use the internet cafe. Due to the slow connections they are having trouble connecting to the internet to update blogs or send email. The power is out at the Lodge as well. Apparently they turn the power off occationally to save money and resources.
I know this is sort of bare bones information but I will keep you posted as I hear further information.
It was good to talk to you even if it was for a brief time. I'm glad you are starting to learn some of the children's names. I am saving up my phone time for this Friday when (hopefully) I will be traveling home.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Philip
I miss you terribly. The blanket idea sounds nice. I'm certain the children must be chilled. I'm sure they will appriciate it a great deal. I'm glad that you are starting to feel useful. I know what it is like to feel uneeded.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Philip
I would just like to say thank you to Philip for being my webmaster and best friend.
